My Story

I’m Dr Shyra Raj and I’d like to share with you a little about my story and how I’ve come to be here with the Cheshire Sobriety Clinic.

In 1999 I qualified in medicine from the University of Nottingham. I undertook further medical training and in 2008 I was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist in the NHS, which I continue with today on a part-time basis.

I have had a strong interest in personal development for much of my adult life. This interest became even more important to me when several years ago I faced some extremely difficult circumstances, with the sudden breakdown of my marriage and becoming a single mother to my 4-month-old baby boy and 4-year-old daughter. In Addition, my father had also been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years prior and his health was rapidly deteriorating. This was very difficult and heart-breaking to watch and unfortunately, he died around this time.

Before all this, I’d previously experienced difficulties with anxiety and depression as well as struggled with low self-worth. I eventually found everything too much. Lost in grief and feeling lost, betrayed and alone, I had to take some time away from work to prioritise my own health and wellbeing.

During this time, I researched and tried many different talking therapies and wellbeing activities, to help me re-find my feet and balance in life. Unfortunately, nothing I tried really provided me with the outcomes that I was looking for and in the timescale that I wanted. I continued for some time on this path, focusing on my own self-care, obtaining knowledge and skills to help me fall back in line with who I knew myself to be and importantly for me to be a strong, consistent, emotionally available, nurturing, and inspirational mother to my two children.

Eventually on my self-development journey to recover from narcissistic abuse, I came across a hybrid form of hypnotherapy called Rapid Transformational Therapy® created by the world renowned therapist Marisa Peer. The theoretical and practical elements really resonated with me and so I made the decision to train with Marisa Peer's training academy to become a certified RTT® practitioner. Undergoing RTT® myself has also helped me to become the successful and focused person I am today, being the mum my children need and no longer being distracted by past traumas. I am also much more resilient to recurrent toxicity which remains on the periphery of my life.

RTT® can and will help you achieve your personal change goals in months, rather than the years that it can often take with the many other counselling and therapy options available. Not only that, but the overall financial investment compared to these long-term conventional therapies is often much less.

Having commenced on my own self-development journey, I have felt a calling to help others on their healing transformation, to leading a more fulfilled life free from the emotional difficulties caused by past experiences.

So my passion and life purpose, after undergoing my own healing transformation, is to help you to also recover and live your life on your terms, without the distressing emotional difficulties and unhelpful coping responses.

Warmest wishes
